Our place
Our place is set up like a home
Our place is set up like a home. It is warm and inviting, with art, family photos and spaces around the rooms for play, relaxing, sleeping and eating.
At Nurturing Hearts, we don’t enrol a child, we welcome a family. You become part of our family and we become a part of yours. Our place is your place too.
The network of relationships around your child is what gives them their sense of self and place in the world, and of course, our place. You’re important to them, and therefore you are important to us too. A child secure in our joint nurturing relationship is in a calm state of mind to learn.
Kaitiaki roles
As kaitiaki (guardians), our key role is to provide an environment at our place with interest and curiosity. One that entices a child to be interested, to experiment, to enquire.
It is important to us to really be present with our tamariki. We observe what they are doing, how they are engaging with each other and the resources, so we can understand what they are trying to achieve. By taking this approach we learn about them, see their progress and use this observation to inform how we will present the environment to encourage and support their progress. Our active involvement in learning starts when we are invited in. They tell us what they need or are trying to achieve, and it is our job to help them achieve it.
We are actively involved when our tamariki need support socially. Language and communication are emerging in the early years and our nurturing approach helps tamariki make sense of that.
